easycharter’s Airport of the Month for August 2021 is Hamad International Airport (IATA: DOH, ICAO: OTHH)
Hamad International Airport was voted the “best airport in the world” at the 2021 Skytrax World Airport Awards.
Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport was rated the “World’s Best Airport” by Skytrax for the past eight years. The 39-year old airport’s modernized terminals and state-of-the-art airport facilities dazzled millions of visitors for years. In 2021, Changi Airport slid into the third spot. Japan’s Tokyo Haneda seized second place.
Based on public voting, Skytrax admits that rankings have been affected by the ongoing health crisis. Heavily struck by the pandemic, airports have invested to provide the safest possible environment for their customers and staff. Many travelers voted for their best airport based on pre-pandemic travel experiences. Others voted for their best airport after their “pandemic” airport experience during the past twelve months.
Edward Plaisted of Skytrax stated, upon announcing the winning airport, that Doha’s Hamad International Airport had been making “rapid progress” over the years. Notably, Hamad International Airport was undeterred by the global travel disruptions and continued with its expansion plans while introducing additional airport health and safety standards.
