On May 26, 2021, Honda Aircraft Company unveiled its new upgraded aircraft, the “HondaJet Elite S”. Honda Aircraft Company revealed the new aircraft at its first virtual product launch event themed “Innovation Continues: Elite S”.
Compared to its predecessor, the 2018 Elite, the upgraded aircraft has a longer range and is able to take one additional passenger. To reduce cockpit workload and improve communications, the aircraft features several avionics upgrades. Aesthetically, the single-pilot jet now features three diverse color schemes to freshen up the exterior.
According to Honda Aircraft Company, the Elite S is the “fastest, furthest and highest-flying plane in its class”. It retains the company’s unique Over-The-Wing Engine Mount (OTWEM) configuration, Natural Laminar Flow (NLF) nose and wing, and composite fuselage. The company says the Elite S is significantly more fuel-efficient with fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to twin-engine business jets in its class.
According to Honda Aircraft Company as well, the Elite S’s cabin is the largest in its class. The aircraft’s cabin features a private lavatory with an optional belted seat, an industry-first Bongiovi sound system, in addition to a full-service galley.
The HondaJet Elite S’s performance upgrades…
The HondaJet Elite S now has an increased gross weight of nearly 91 kg, allowing one extra passenger on board for the same distance or “typical mission”. Alternatively, the aircraft can fly an extra 120 nm at a higher payload. Power comes from GE Honda Aero Engines HF120.
The aircraft’s avionics upgrades…
To improve the clarity and efficiency of communications, the HondaJet Elite S’s customized Garmin G3000 avionics suite is now equipped with FAA DataComm and ACARS. Such features replace traditional voice commands with text-based messaging. Additionally, the HondaJet Elite S is equipped with the all-new Advanced Steering Augmentation System (ASAS) to further reduce cockpit workload and maximize safety.
The Elite S’s exterior upgrades…
Honda Aircraft Company is offering three exclusive paint schemes to freshen up the aircraft’s exterior. The new paint schemes include Gunmetal, Luxe Gold, and Deep Sea Blue. The company is also offering several color options for the new Elite S logo, with the bold red S as a standard offering.
